Issues We Do Not Handle

We want to be clear about the types of legal issues we cannot assist with. At Disability Rights Rhode Island (DRRI), we focus on helping with issues related to your disability. We cannot help with general legal issues that are not related to your disability.

For example, we do not provide legal help with the following types of issues:

  • Bankruptcy: Filing for bankruptcy when you are unable to pay your debts.
  • Criminal Law: Issues related to criminal charges, such as arrest, trial, or sentencing.
  • Family Law: Issues like divorce, child custody, or child support.
  • Financial Assistance: Issues with cash benefits, debt collection or assistance with utility bills.
  • Property Tax: Issues with property taxes or challenges to property tax assessments.
  • Rental or Mortgage Assistance: Issues with paying rent, mortgages, or eviction due to missed payments.
  • Mortgage Foreclosure: Issues with a bank taking back your home due to missed mortgage payments.
  • Personal Injury and Malpractice: Issues related to accidents, injuries, or mistakes made by doctors or other professionals.
  • Property Law: Issues with buying, selling, or disputes over land and property.
  • Social Security Determinations or Appeals: Issues with applying for or appealing Social Security benefits decisions.
  • Special Needs Estate Planning: Planning care for someone with special needs after a loved one passes away.
  • Wills and Trusts: Issues related to creating or managing a will or trust to manage your estate.
