Quick Guide to Ticket to Work In Rhode Island

Quick Guide to Ticket to Work In Rhode Island

What is Ticket to Work?

Ticket to Work (Ticket) is a program through Social Security. The program is free. It helps people who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) find and receive services to get or keep a job. You can receive Ticket services from the Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS) OR an Employment Network (EN).

What is an Employment Network (EN)?

ENs are private organizations that work with Social Security. ENs work with you to create a plan to find work. Once you are eligible, you need to choose an EN. To find ENs in your area, call the Ticket to Work Help Line at 1-866-968-7482 (or 1-866-833-2967 for TTY) or use the Find Help Tool at https://www.choosework.ssa.gov/findhelp/.

Am I eligible to participate in the Ticket to Work program?

SSI and SSDI beneficiaries between 18 and 64 are eligible to participate in the Ticket program. Staff at the Ticket to Work Help Line can determine if you are eligible for a Ticket. The Ticket to Work Help Line is 1-866-968-7842 (or 1-866-833-2967 for TTY).

How do I use my Ticket?

Take the Ticket to ORS or an EN. They will help you create a plan to go to work. Then they will provide you with the services you need to follow that plan. Not all ENs serve everyone, so you will need to contact them to find out if they can assist you.

Do I have to go to work to keep my Ticket?

You do not have to go to work to keep your Ticket. But if you stop working toward your job goals, you will have to restart Social Security Continuing Disability Review (CDR).

If I go to work, will my benefits be affected?

Working and getting any income may affect your benefits (such as SSI, SSDI, food stamps, medical assistance, housing). There are programs that can help prevent benefits problems. A Ticket to Work Customer Services Representative can give you information about work incentives. Call the Ticket to Work Help Line at 1-866-968-7842 (or 1-866-833-2967 for TTY).

What if I have a problem with the EN I choose?

If you have a disagreement with your EN, you have the right to use the Social Security grievance process. You also have the right to work with another EN. DRRI’s PABSS program can advocate for you. For more information, contact DRRI at info@drri.org or 401-831-3150.
